Theodor Herzl was an influential Austro-Hungarian journalist and the founder of modern political Zionism. He is best known for his efforts to establish a Jewish state in Palestine, driven by his belief that the Jewish people needed a homeland of their own to escape persecution and anti-Semitism prevalent in Europe during his time. Herzl's advocacy for Zionism was spurred by the Dreyfus Affair in France, which highlighted the deep-seated anti-Jewish sentiment in society and galvanized his resolve to seek a solution to the Jewish Question.
