Albie Sachs is a prominent South African lawyer, activist, and author known for his contributions to the anti-apartheid movement. Born in Zambia, he moved to South Africa at a young age, where he became deeply involved in the struggle for freedom and justice. Sachs was a founding member of the Congress of South African Writers and played a significant role in the African National Congress (ANC). He was arrested and imprisoned for his activism, and in 1988, he survived a car bomb attack that left him with serious injuries.

After the end of apartheid, Sachs was appointed as a judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, where he was influential in shaping the new democratic legal framework. His writings, including "The Soft Vengeance of a Freedom Fighter," reflect his experiences and insights gained through years of activism and legal work. Sachs continues to inspire many with his dedication to human rights and social justice.
