Carter G. Woodson was an influential African American historian, author, and journalist, often referred to as the 'Father of Black History.' Born in 1875, he faced the challenges of growing up in a segregated society where African Americans had limited access to education. Despite these obstacles, he pursued his studies fervently and eventually earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University, becoming one of the first African Americans to do so. His groundbreaking work, 'The Mis-Education of the Negro,' critiques the educational system and its failure to teach African American history and culture accurately.

Woodson dedicated his life to the promotion and preservation of African American history. He founded the Association for the Study of African American Life and History and established Negro History Week, which later evolved into Black History Month. His efforts emphasized the importance of understanding African American contributions to society, and he influenced generations of scholars and activists. Woodson's legacy continues to inspire discussions on race, education, and history.
