Apollonius of Perga
저자에 대하여
Apollonius of Perga was a prominent Greek geometrics mathematician, often referred to as the 'Great Geometer' for his influential work on conic sections. He lived during the 3rd century BCE and is best known for his seminal treatise, the 'Conics', which laid the groundwork for the study of conic sections such as ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas. His work not only advanced the field of mathematics but also provided critical insights that would later influence both mathematics and physics in the centuries that followed.
The 'Conics' consists of eight books, although only a few have survived in their entirety. Apollonius's methods and terminologies set the stage for future mathematicians and scientists, including figures like Isaac Newton and Johannes Kepler, who would build on his findings. His rigorous approach to geometry and his ability to blend algebraic and geometric methods made his contributions invaluable to the development of mathematical thought.
