Pope Leo XIII, born Vincenzo Gioacchino Raffaele Luigi Pecci, served as the head of the Catholic Church from 1878 until his death in 1903. He is best known for his efforts to address the social and economic issues of the time, particularly through his encyclicals that advocated for social justice and the rights of workers. His landmark encyclical, Rerum Novarum, published in 1891, addressed the conditions of the working class and laid the foundation for the Church's social teaching, emphasizing the importance of the dignity of labor and the right to fair wages.
