Origen was an early Christian scholar and theologian who is best known for his work in biblical exegesis and the development of Christian doctrine. Born in Alexandria around 185 AD, he was a prolific writer and is often regarded as one of the most influential theologians of the early Church. Origen's contributions include the Hexapla, a critical edition of the Old Testament that presented texts in multiple languages side by side, facilitating deeper biblical study. He also developed the concept of allegorical interpretation, which allowed for a more nuanced understanding of scripture, emphasizing the spiritual over the literal meanings.
