Ovid, a prominent Roman poet, is best known for his works on mythology and transformation, particularly 'Metamorphoses', a narrative poem that has had a significant impact on Western literature and art. He was born in Sulmona in 43 BC and became a key figure in the literary scene of Rome during the reign of Augustus. His poetry often explored themes of love, desire, and the complexities of human emotions, which resonated deeply with audiences of his time and continue to do so today.

Throughout his career, Ovid produced a wide array of poetry, including 'Heroides' and 'Amores', both of which delve into romantic relationships and the struggles of love. His innovative approach to storytelling and use of mythological references helped shape the Latin literary tradition. Unfortunately, Ovid's career faced a significant setback when he was exiled to Tomis on the Black Sea, where he remained until his death in 17 AD. Despite this, his influence on later poets and writers is undeniable, marking him as a foundational figure in the canon of Western literature.
