Plato was an ancient Greek philosopher, a student of Socrates and teacher of Aristotle. He founded the Academy in Athens, one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in the Western world. His most famous work, 'The Republic', examines the meaning of justice and the order and character of the just city-state and the just man.
