Orlando Di Lasso, also known as Roland de Lassus, was a preeminent composer of the late Renaissance, renowned for his mastery in a variety of musical forms, particularly in polyphonic choral music. Born in 1532 in Mons, he spent much of his life in various European cities, including Munich, where he served as the court composer for Duke Albrecht V. His prolific output includes over 200 motets, madrigals, and chansons, showcasing his innovative approach to harmony and text setting, which greatly influenced the development of Western music.

Di Lasso's work is celebrated for its emotional depth and technical brilliance, reflecting the complexities of the human experience. He was known for incorporating elements from different musical traditions, which contributed to his unique style.
