Opis

Set in a contemporary world where magic and reality intertwine, the story unfolds within the walls of Her Majesty's Royal Coven. This intriguing tale follows a diverse group of witches who form a clandestine sisterhood dedicated to protecting their secrets. As they navigate the complexities of their magical powers and societal expectations, the main characters find themselves caught between their personal ambitions and their loyalty to each other.

The narrative delves deep into themes of identity, belonging, and the sacrifices one must make for the greater good. Each character brings a unique perspective to the challenges they face, offering readers a glimpse into the struggles of finding one's place in a world that often fears what it does not understand. The interplay of friendship and rivalry creates a rich tapestry that binds the witches together, yet threatens to tear them apart.

Unfolding against a backdrop of political intrigue and supernatural tensions, the story builds to a gripping climax. As the witches face external threats, they must also confront their internal demons. The stakes are high, and loyalty is tested as the lines between right and wrong blur.

With vibrant prose and an engaging plot, the narrative captivates readers, inviting them into a world where magic can heal as much as it can harm. It is a powerful exploration of female strength and solidarity, leaving a lasting impression on anyone who journeys through its pages.

Recenzje

If you look hard enough at old photographs, we're there in the background: healers in the trenches; Suffragettes; Bletchley Park oracles; land girls and resistance fighters. Why is it we help in times of crisis? We have a gift. We are stronger than Mundanes, plain and simple.Juno Dawson explores gender and the corrupting nature of power in a delightful and provocative story of magic and matriarchy, friendship and feminism. Dealing with all the aspects of contemporary womanhood, as well as being phenomenally powerful witches, Niamh, Helena, Leonie and Elle may have grown apart but they will always be bound by the sisterhood of the coven. This was such an enjoyable read but it's definitely not a light read. This book deals with many heavy topics such as accepting LGBTQ+ individuals, specifically transgender individuals, feminism, grief and loss all while trying to find yourself. There are some decently heavy depictions of transphobia (trigger warning for those who need it) being portrayed here, and if you read to the end, you'll hate specific characters just as much as I do. Despite this, I loved this book. All the characters are complex, strong individuals capable of amazing but terrifying things. They are all flawed, in their ways, which makes them all the more relatable.
