Jordanes
Об авторе
Jordanes was a 6th-century Roman bureaucrat and historian, best known for his work "Getica," which provides a history of the Goths. His writings are crucial for understanding the migration and cultural history of this Germanic people, as they offer insights into their origins, customs, and interactions with the Roman Empire. Although much of the information in his works is derived from earlier sources, such as Cassiodorus, Jordanes' unique perspective and narrative style make his accounts valuable for historians and scholars alike.
In addition to "Getica," Jordanes wrote "Romana," a summary of Roman history, although the text has not survived in its entirety. His contributions are often considered a bridge between classical antiquity and the early medieval period, helping to preserve the memory of the Gothic tribes during a time of significant upheaval in Europe. Jordanes' influence persists in modern historiography, as his texts continue to be referenced in the study of early Germanic history and the transformation of the Roman world.
