System of a Down is an American rock band formed in 1994 in Glendale, California. Known for their unique blend of heavy metal, punk rock, and Armenian folk music, the band gained significant popularity in the early 2000s with their politically charged lyrics and energetic performances. The lineup consists of lead vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1998, but it was their 2001 album "Toxicity" that catapulted them to mainstream success, featuring hits like "Chop Suey!" and "Toxicity.", which showcased their distinctive sound and thought-provoking themes.
