Benny Goodman was an American jazz and swing musician known as the "King of Swing." Born in Chicago in 1909, he began playing the clarinet at a young age and quickly made a name for himself in the music scene. Goodman's big break came in the 1930s when he formed his own band and was pivotal in popularizing swing music. His innovative approach to jazz included integrating African American musicians into his predominantly white band, which was a significant step towards breaking racial barriers in music during that era.

His famous performances at the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles and the Carnegie Hall concert in 1938 helped solidify his status as a music icon.
