Henry M. Stanley was a Welsh-American explorer and journalist, best known for his exploration of Africa and his search for the missionary and explorer David Livingstone. Born in 1841, Stanley's early life was marked by hardship and adventure. He eventually made his way to America, where he adopted the name Henry Morton Stanley and began a career in journalism. His reporting on the American Civil War and other events garnered attention, but it was his expeditions into Africa that would define his legacy.

Stanley's most famous journey was his quest to find Livingstone, who had disappeared in the African interior. Upon locating him in 1871, Stanley famously greeted him with the words, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" This expedition opened the door for further exploration of the African continent, and Stanley would go on to lead several more significant journeys, mapping vast areas and establishing trade routes. His work in Africa has been both praised for its adventurous spirit and criticized for its colonial implications, making him a complex figure in the history of exploration.
