Porphyry was a prominent philosopher in the Neoplatonist school, known for his contributions to metaphysics and ethics. Born in Tyrus around the year 234, he became a student of Plotinus, the founder of Neoplatonism. His works played a crucial role in the transmission of Platonic thought, particularly through his writings on Plotinus's teachings. Porphyry is also famous for his introduction of the concept of the 'harmonic' relation between the divine and the material world, which he elaborated in various texts.
