Alias Grace was a really unique reading experience. I especially loved hearing about familiar places like Toronto, Richmond Hill, and Kingston, all places I've been to many times....but in the 1800s. The Kingston sections stood out to me the most, especially since I’ve been near some of those locations in real life, and honestly, they have to be haunted after what went on there back then! Definitely bad vibes there.I also found the memoir style storytelling and getting to know Grace herself fascinating. However, the book dragged for me. It felt so much longer than necessary, with endless detail, analysis, and side characters that didn’t add much. The whole subplot with the doctor in particular felt like it could have been trimmed down (or cut entirely). By the end, we’re still left to interpret what to believe about Grace, which I can appreciate but it made the long journey feel a bit unsatisfying.Overall, this is definitely a thought provoking novel that lingers with you, but it could have easily been at least 250 pages shorter.
