I watched the movie before I read the book, and I think that influenced me a lot. I already felt connected to the characters and as a result I don't think I can quite fairly judge this. The writing wasn't great. It was an amazing story when I watched the movie, but I just didn't have that many feelings for the book, and I think it was because of the slow writing. It felt like nothing was happening. There were supposed to be these profound thoughts that made you think, but it mostly bored me. So like I said, without seeing the movie, I don't think I would have liked this book much, and I'm pretty surprised to find almost no negative reviews here on Goodreads. The movie left me feeling devastated, and I thought about it for many days after watching. I felt like things were unresolved, but in that acceptable way were you need more but are satisfied with what you have. I guess I'd recommend this, but I'd say watch the movie first, and the book isn't that important.
