الوصف

In 1917 the fears Lieutenant Collin Cassidy must deal with are unlike those of his men. Though he shares the same hazards they do, Cassidy is unique, for his greatest enemy is not the Germans or the wretched conditions his platoon endures in the trenches. Rather, it was an appreciation that he is at war with himself, for behind the façade the young Irish officer hides behind is a soul out of sync with the physical presentation his society judges him by, a part of him he knows as Caitlin. Bit by bit the duel strain of war and the belief he will never live up to the expectations of others leads to a collapse. At a psychiatric hospital where ‘shell-shocked’ officers are treated Cassidy befriends Shannon Keane, a nursing sister who sees him for who he is. It is a friendship that is invaluable, for his return to duty in France proves to be short lived when his battalion is destroyed. Set adrift, Cassidy deserts, returning to Ireland where Shannon helps him fashion a new life as Caitlin.
