The Septem Stellae coven finally caught up with me. After seeing my father for the first time in ten years, and learning some hard truths about my family, about him, the last thing I want to do is take part in a competition to join the Septem Stellae coven. What I want doesn’t matter though. That’s made clear to me when they drag me across the country to a meeting house in the middle of nowhere. Here I will begin my initiation into the coven that hunted and killed most of my family. Here I will navigate the intricate politics of a coven stuck in the past and bound by laws that keep most of the members limited in their power. Separated from the men who hold my heart by politics or distance, I feel alone for the first time in a long time. It only gets worse when, trial after trial, the elders of the coven try to shake me, try to prove that I am unworthy, that I don’t belong. They might be right. But hell if I’ll let them see it.
