Doan & Carstairs: Volume 2 (Sally's in the Alley & Oh, Murderer Mine)

ÒIf you must go down those mean streets, walk softly, but walk a big dog... ÒPerenially broke Doan is a short, chubby little man with corn-yellow hair who doesnÕt exactly look like heÕs going to set the world on fire. His clothes are frequently rumpled, because he tends to sleep in them, and heÕs been known to drink a prodigious amount of alcohol. [And] while there have plenty of dogs in mystery fiction, thereÕs never been one quite like Carstairs.Ó Ñ Kevin Burton Smith, The Thrilling Detective Website This volume collects the final two Doan and Carstairs SallyÕs in the Alley and Oh, Murderer Mine. Norbert Davis (1909-1949), who also wrote as Harrison Hunt and Cedric Titus, was a rarity in the pulp writing a fine writer with a sense of humour. He contributed to Black Mask, Double Detective, Detective Fiction Weekly and Dime Detective, and is best known for his Doan and Carstairs stories.
