Ninety-Three

In 1793, the Vendée, a western region of France, rose up against the Republic, igniting a bloody civil war. Using the insurrection as the setting for his last novel, Hugo tells us the story of a painful but unstoppable transition, of the old feudal world being brutally reshaped into a new republic. In this time of darkness, three men rise up above above the rest, piercing the gloom of hopelessness and despair with blinding rays of heroism. At its very core, Ninety-Three is an ode to heroism, a depiction of true the will to stand by one's values, no matter the circumstances, no matter the cost.
