الوصف

The original stories behind everyone's favorite Christmas ballet. It wasn't until the 1950s that seeing The Nutcracker at Christmastime became an American tradition. But the story itself is much older and its original intent more complex. This eye-opening new volume presents two of the tale's earliest versions, both in new translations: E.T.A. Hoffmann's Nutcracker and Mouse King (1816), in which a young girl is whisked away to the Land of Toys to help her animated nutcracker defeat the Mouse King, and Alexandre Dumas's 1845 adaptation, The Tale of the Nutcracker, based on Hoffmann's popular work. Irresistible tales of magic, mystery, and childhood adventure, these timeless delights and fresh interpretations about the importance of imagination will captivate readers of all ages.

Meh.It never fails. The adaption of the story be way better than the actual story. First it was Beauty and the beast where I like the adaptop better than the OG version and it with nutcracker where I find the OG version ( aka this version) not as good as the adaptations of it. It always full like the original story always have to much going on meanwhile the adaption takes the strong points of the story and focus more on them. I'll stick with the Ballet versions of the story. The best thing about this was the fact I listened to the audiobook with Christopher Plummer narrating. Captain Von Trapp himself couldn't help this along with the fact the music from the Nutcracker was playing in the background. I found Marie to be annoying even if she was just 7 in this compare to other versions where she seem like she was at least 11 or 12. Drosselmeyer didn't have that mysterious feel that he does have in the adaptions. The nutcracker himself seem bland. It was just Meh. I prefer the George Balanchine’s Nutcracker..
