الوصف

Virgnia’s Woolf’s crowning achievement, and one of the greatest novels of the 20th century.

To the Lighthouse tells the story of the Ramsey family, gathered at a cottage with several guests. While the story lacks a conventional narrative, many of the events centre around the desire of James, one of the Ramseys’ children, to visit a lighthouse. It is one of the classics of the modernist movement, and the stream of consciousness narrative style in particular. The second section, Time Passes, is famous for its depiction of loss and death over the course of years.

عرض الكل

A tough read, its 'stream of consciousness' prose combined with slow pacing it became a chore to read. In fact, I ended up switching to the Audiobook version and, to be honest, I had a much better experience. (Literally still no idea what was happening, but it was much easier to follow and i did start to enjoy it towards the end).

Unfortunately I don't think this one is my particular cup of joe. However I may give this another read later into my reading journey because I do think there is something here which gives me hope.
