Gods should never meddle in the affairs of mortals, but Xie Lian is not one to follow the rules.

This book follows Xie Lian a prince that ascended as a god three times. This book picks up right after his third ascention, where he caused some damage to the god realm. To pay for the damage he decides to take up a mission to find out why brides keep disappearing in this one village.

I was suprised by how good this book ended up being. I have never read any chinese fantay and don't know alot about the culture or myths, but it didnt seem to cause to much of a problem. The characters were all suprisingly funny and I enjoyed the time spent with them. I also really liked Xie Lian, it was funny seeing how characters interact with him, since he seemed pretty normal, but they all act like he is crazy. There were many moment where I caught myself laughing out loude due to something someone said, which not a lot of books do that to me. I did think the book ended pretty abrupt, but since this is part of a large continuous story it may just be a regionalization issue. I also thing its important to note that this book can be a bit graphic. It does not shy away from gore and there were some parts were I either skimmed or skipped because I was to squeamish.

[Spoiler Free Review]Great novel! I've watched the first season of the animation first and the animation covers the whole first book. Even if you already watched it, I think reading the novel is still worth it.I am a little familiar with chinese storytelling, the overall terms and structure so the book wasn't completely overwhelming. But if you are not familiar the book still does a great job of explaining most things and it includes a detailed glossary not just of the character but chinese terms in general. Our main characters are intriguing and have great chemistry. Their first scene in the forest walking without speaking? Leaves me in awe everytime, it was one of the most beautiful scenes in the animation I've ever seen and one of the most romantic things I've read. Even if chinese media is not allowed/scared to show affection, especially between same-sex pairings, they still manage to build up amazing atmosphere between characters.

OMG. The first half was adorable and hectic. It was so close to being a 10. But the second half was a little slow. It was a great and important backstory, I just didn't want to read it right then.

A Danmei about XieLian and Hua Cheng<spoiler>, ghost and God. In this book, it basically summarizes season one of the show, so it goes to the Banyue arc. </spoiler>I found this book based on the animated TV show, and I loved it. The story was so cute and interesting.
