This was a perfectly fine mistery book. I liked the representation of Molly being neurodivergent (even though I got anxious many times, wanting to just hold her hand and help her make sense of the world). I really liked the found family aspect of everything. I really liked the hotel setting. The epilogue was the cherry on top.The one thing I didn't like was the execution of the mistery itself. I feel like it had a very slow start and got resolved very quickly (too quickly?).
it was really hard to get into the book. i personally found it annoying that Molly was so blind to se everything happening to her. i predicted who did it in like the first 100 pages but i wasn’t expecting how. it wasn't a good book it wasn’t a bad one either. 3⭐️
A good read from a different perspectiveI really enjoyed how this was written from the perspective of someone who is a bit different. The way molly sees the world is in a very linear way and presents interesting descriptions and outcomes to her situations It can be frustrating to see her get into more trouble for not understanding, but it's what her world is like and created a perfect narrativeThe action does slow right down in the end, but it is all neatly solved with a bow. A story cleaned to perfection
I have had this book in my tbr in a while and it did not dissapoint. I love how everyone underestimated Molly but she was the most caring friend anyone could ask for. She went above and beyond to help others and to do her job. She was a stellar character in my opinion. The ending was so sweet I loved how it all got resolved. Amazing.
⭐️2During the first 25% of the book, which was quite long due to excessive passages on cleaning, I guessed everything concerning the plot, which is not ideal when reading mysteries or thrillers. I found the mystery in this book to be meh and predictable. Thus, having to read Molly's remaining 75% essentially playing catch-up was extremely frustrating.It is reasonable to assume Molly is neurodivergent. As well as having trouble understanding social cues and reading others, she is obsessed with cleanliness. In spite of not explicitly stating Molly's neurodiversity, it appears Nita Prose intends her character to be neurodivergent. However, my biggest complaint with the book is that it wasn't well done. The portrayal of Molly to me felt like a caricature, in which she is depicted as an intellectually gifted but overly naïve child. There is something inauthentic and slightly disturbing about it. I'm not sure if Nita Prose just picked characteristics associated with autism for the sake of adding depth to Molly. However, it seemed like those characteristics were exaggerated to make Molly seem almost childlike. Molly's inability to comprehend simple conversations and cues exasperated me as a reader, especially considering her directness.All in all, I am stunned that this book won in the Mystery & Thriller category at the 2022 Goodreads Choice Awards. Totally undeserved in my opinion.
