Beschreibung

The Spellshop is Sarah Beth Durst’s romantasy debut–a lush cottagecore tale full of stolen spellbooks, unexpected friendships, sweet jams, and even sweeter love.

Kiela has always had trouble dealing with people. Thankfully, as a librarian at the Great Library of Alyssium, she and her assistant, Caz—a magically sentient spider plant—have spent the last decade sequestered among the empire’s most precious spellbooks, preserving their magic for the city’s elite.

When a revolution begins and the library goes up in flames, she and Caz flee with all the spellbooks they can carry and head to a remote island Kiela never thought she’d see again: her childhood home. Taking refuge there, Kiela discovers, much to her dismay, a nosy—and very handsome—neighbor who can’t take a hint and keeps showing up day after day to make sure she’s fed and to help fix up her new home.

In need of income, Kiela identifies something that even the bakery in town doesn’t have: jam. With the help of an old recipe book her parents left her and a bit of illegal magic, her cottage garden is soon covered in ripe berries.

But magic can do more than make life a little sweeter, so Kiela risks the consequences of using unsanctioned spells and opens the island’s first-ever and much needed secret spellshop.

Like a Hallmark rom-com full of mythical creatures and fueled by cinnamon rolls and magic, The Spellshop will heal your heart and feed your soul.

I really enjoyed the story and the characters all around. I will say that the Main Character bothered me at the start of the book because she felt very naive and oblivious to things going on around her but then again when you're a bookworm to that level that does tend to happen. this book really is a very wholesome romcom almost kind of like a Hallmark movie but done better. I really liked the small town feel that was being portrayed and I definitely loved the cottage core style with the descriptions of the town and also the house that she lived in. my favorite character so far was the spider plant Caz and his little companion I thought it was absolutely adorable. I would definitely recommend this one for people who want to have a wholesome romance fantasy story that doesn't really have a lot of spice but it's really not about the spice level it's more about the story and how the community just comes together.

I normally don't pick up fantasy books, but this is one of the BEST fantasy read i have ever read. I love every single bit, from beginning to the end. I love the character growth and the love between friendships and relationships. I must read more fantasy reads just like this. If I had the ability to get brainwashed and pick up a book to read again, it would be this.

Listened to the audio and it started off well but then kind of plateaued. It had a cozy vibe to it and the characters were likeable enough. I especially liked the cactus 🌵. I would have liked a little more action and anticipation but that's cozy for you.
