Blurring the Lines

When I read the synopsis, I thought that this book sounds like something I would enjoy. Aside from reading my other passion is music and I enjoy reading books that centres on the theme of music, so I signed up to receive a complimentary copy. Now here I am providing my opinion on what I believe was a poignant story of love, healing, acceptance and forgiveness. Blurring the Lines, tells the story of Christian Meyer, a musician and a recovering alcoholic. After spending time in rehab to address his issues of alcoholism, Christian is determined to steer his career on a new path. However, this was proving difficult as he is experiencing writer’s block. To help combat this problem his manager ad friend Max hired Corinne, a songwriter to assist him in his endeavours. Corinne and Christian definitely have chemistry, however past hurts and heartbreaks were intent on threatening their chance to be together. Corinne avoids the limelight and she does not take credit for the songs she writes. She had experienced heartbreak at the age of 18 and Christian was a reminder of that pain. As a result, she was scared to get involved with him and was not sure how to deal with her attraction to him. She agreed to help Christian with his writer’s block out of gratitude to Max, who had helped her when she was nursing her broken heart. I understand what she was feeling having suffered heartbreak and loss in my life. However, I felt she was a bit overboard with it. She was allowing her fears to prevent her from living her life to the fullest. Christian desperately wanted to be a part of Corinne’s life, but she was scared to allow herself to feel anything for him as she feared getting hurt once again. Christian had his own share of demons. He had alienated himself from his family when he had become dependent on alcohol. He has regrets about his past and is intent on making things better. He was determined to be a better person for Corinne. He was dependent on her to keep him focused and there were times I felt that with her pushing him away he would have spiraled out of control. I was glad to see him hold his own and remained strong through it all. Corrine’s past has come back to haunt her. How will she handle it? Will she run and leave Christian hanging or will she face it and grasp new beginnings with him? To find the answers to these questions and more you will have to read it for yourself. I enjoyed this story. It was engaging and I had difficulty putting it down. The character development was good. There was enough backstory about the characters which allow readers to connect with them on an emotional level. I am looking forward to reading more of this author’s work.
