The story begins with the preparation for deployment of a US Army Special Forces unit, Delta Team Copperhead. Their mission is to track, capture or kill Osama bin Laden in the wake of the horrific events of September 11th, 2001. The mission facilitates the setting (Afghanistan) for an unlikely bond between a young, but war-weathered, Afghani guide, Ahmad Khali and Corporal Bill Barton of Team Copperhead. Their intense, but brief time together, navigating the unforgiving terrain of the Hindu Kush Mountains leads to open conversations on their perceptions of contrasting cultures, societal, and religious beliefs. A kindred bond forms between Barton and Ahmad through their inquisitive exchanges, until tragedy befalls both young men, drastically altering their life’s journeys, and attitudes, until they intersect once again in Ankara, Turkey, during an assassination attempt on a prominent world religious leader. The conflicting, extreme paths that each character pursues, reshapes their minds, bodies, and spirits leading up to this climactic event, where both young men must confront and question their loyalties, their trusts and their beliefs.
