It's a 2.5⭐.This is complicated. I'm exhausted by this book.The premise was sooo good, but the execution really wasn't for me. It was insanely repetitive, I didn't care about any of the characters and the plot was so weirdly structured, that it felt like we had 100 plot lines and none at the same time, which was it's own personal kind of frustrating. I probably should have DNFed, but my curiosity dragged me to the end. Spoiler: it wasn’t worth it.Maybe if I delete it from my Kindle and re-download it, I’ll get the same premise in a version that actually delivers? A girl can dream.
Concept was sort of interesting. Book tried to be like the Midnight Library.
3.5 stars rounded up. I really liked the premise of this and I was very into the book for the first 60% or so. Once things don't work out with one of husbands Lauren really likes (justice for Carter, tbh), she sort of goes off the deep-end in kind of unbelievable and alarming ways. These moments didn't really do it for me, as she'd been super level-headed previously and it all just seemed a little too out of character. I've seen other reviewers say this would have worked better as a novella and I think they're maybe on to something. If not a novella, then certainly, for me, it could have been about 70 pages shorter. Overall the concept for this book is great, it's just the execution that faltered for me a wee bit. I listened to the audiobook and Miranda Raison was a great narrator for the story.
