Against this backdrop of ruin, a tale unfolds, woven with themes of power, betrayal, and the resilience of the human spirit. Characters grapple with their fates in a land torn apart by struggle and disillusionment, each navigating the complexities of hope amidst despair. The lingering echoes of Elantris's former glory serve as a reminder of what was lost, igniting a quest for understanding and redemption.
As the remnants of magic fade, new alliances form, and the fight to restore Elantris ignites a spark of courage within its inhabitants. In a world where faith and determination are tested, the journey reveals that even in the midst of downfall, the possibilities of rebirth and transformation remain.

Sando has a huge imagination.
Took me a while to finish because it's both a chunky book and I've been busy in my personal life lately, but it was absolutely worth sticking with this book until the end.I knew going in that this was Sanderson's debut novel, my first Sanderson book and one that the community doesn't seem to favour all that much in comparison to his other books, so I was open minded as I read it, not expecting perfection on the first go.The first half of the book is a bit of a drag, a lot of political back and forth, world building and explaining just about everything. Which is usually common for long fantasy novels like this, but past the halfway mark, the book changes completely. Everything becomes much more intriguing, things start to come together and characters really start developing. I really loved all of the main characters, while enjoying some of the side characters (while others felt a little flat).Overall, a very good debut novel, one that I thoroughly enjoyed the latter half of. Especially the characters Hrathen and Galladon, they are my two favourites and I love them both equally....Even if Hrathen clearly has the absolute best character development overall. :)
