Beschreibung

When star hockey player Alec Barczewski’s estranged childhood friend, Dani Collins, moves to town, they end up in a mutually beneficial fake-dating relationship that reignites old feelings. Following her parents’ divorce, Dani and her mom move in with Dani’s hockey legend grandfather in Southview, Minnesota, where she spent a month every summer as a child and where her friendship with Alec grew. Between visits, the two were pen pals, but they eventually fell out of touch. Despite some tensions over their loss of friendship, the high school seniors reconnect. Desperate to get off Harvard’s waitlist, Dani needs another extracurricular activity, while Alec—whose reputation took a hit when a photo of him holding a bong appeared on social media—is eager to improve his tarnished image for NHL scouts. The pair strike a deal: They’ll fake date, making Alec look like a stable guy whose academically gifted girlfriend is related to hockey royalty, and in exchange, he’ll get Dani a team manager position that will catch the eye of Harvard’s admissions officers. Eventually, complicated feelings about their past, stressful family relationships, and their brewing romance boil over. Romance fans will love the deliciously tension-filled scenes between Alec and Dani, who are believable friends with heavy demands weighing on them. They feel like real teenagers, and readers will enjoy rooting for them as the well-paced story unfolds. Main characters present white. A compelling romance inhabited by complex and appealing characters.

“Call me later?”“Try and stop me, Collins.” Has the same vibes as “In your dreams”“Every damn night, Buxbaum” [a:Lynn Painter, Better than the movies|57045711|Lynn Painter, Better than the movies|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]And I am LIVING for it.The book was so adorable, and I couldn't get enough of it (I ended up reading it through all my breaks and on the commute home). I absolutely love Dani and Alec; such adorable dorks, honestly. Dani's social anxiety, her sarcasm, and the way she cares so much but is kind of scared it's selfish make her so relatable. I also love how she slowly comes out of her shell as the book progresses. Alec was honestly my favorite. Yeah, he was a jock, but he wasn't some macho, testosterone-oozing love interest. Instead, he was so open, very expressive, and didn't shy away from being vulnerable. He was a dork with the biggest crush on his childhood sweetheart/ex-best friend, but then he got all serious about the game and everything that was on the line. I like that he wasn't all nonchalant and was 100% ok with being whipped. The side characters were pretty well written too, but I wish we could have had more time with them, cause I'll be honest, if it weren't for their descriptions, I would've kept confusing Kyle, Vinny & Richie cause they seemed almost similar. I also loved the feeling of oneness that came with the town and hockey. It lowkey made me yearn for something like that. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants a quick read or something to get them out of a reading slump.
