Frisco Pigeon Mambo

Meet these hard-drinking laboratory refugees, who as the infamous "Killer Pigeons" create havoc in San Francisco. They dance into bars, they stick up liquor stores, they spy on socialites, dodge murder raps, and pull a miracle our of their hats. Will they find their way back home to Berkeley? Will they survive the next 15 minutes without a cigarette? Call them "America's Most Wanted," but don't call them pigeons. These swashbuckling outlaws think they're human! Read this hilarious new novel from the author of Youth in Revolt.“Hilarious fable”“The . . . seamless blend of high comedy and Wonderlandesque fantasy is uproarious, and its handling of progressive activism is both entertaining and incisive. The book brilliantly fulfills the promise of satire by transforming the familiar into the unfamiliar, giving a fresh an witty tweak to issues of identity and survival of the fittest. . . Good satirists are a rare breed. It’s difficult to pull off a conceit as farfetched as using pigeons to symbolize our dangerous lack of self-awareness, yet Payne does so with gusto and poignancy. His work is a shining reward for any prospector.” —San Francisco magazine
