Imp on Either Shoulder: Working on Our Temperaments

Many behavior patterns are formed very much in accordance with our main temperament, whether choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic, or melancholic. The Imp on Either Shoulder refers to the menials respectively of Lucifer or the Devil (left shoulder) and Ahriman or Satan (right shoulder). They are both constant in their attempts to catch us off balance, so that what seemed a good idea at the time all too often gets us into trouble later on. Spiritual scientific knowledge, when put into practice by means of sound, commonsense methods, indicates how hope and fear can be righted. And the Christ holds Lucifer and Ahriman in balance, as exemplar of what we may aspire to.
