Jed Rourke has been everything from a soldier to a miner, a cowhand and a gambler--and most recently a Pinkerton detective. Stopping in Rock Creek every now and again to see his sister, Jed finds a compelling reason to stay this time--prim and sensible Hannah Winters, who has arrived in town at her distraught sister's request. Hannah's brother-in-law has been charged with murder. While Jed believes any man capable of violence, Hannah won't hear of it--and insists on helping him solve the crime.
