Living the Trinity

Every Sunday, churches across the world gather to worship our living God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But all too often, the church pays mere lip service to "God in three persons." In reality, we're worshiping what Doug Jones calls a "hermit god"; a god who is lonely, impersonal, antisocial, and dominating. We can see this in the way we live, Jones argues, because people naturally imitate what they worship.

These four talks call us back to Scripture and to the robustly Trinitarian creeds of the early church. Further, they boldly declare that the meaning of life is to shape the Church into the Trinity. As we come to understand the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we gain unity in our own lives. Similarly, when we understand the harmony of God in three persons, we become able to truly love our individually different brothers and sisters in Christ. And as we embrace the unity and diversity that exists in the breathtaking mystery of the Trinity, the ugliness in our lives will be overcome as the beauty of our God and His creation washes over us.
