In 1790 with the advent of the Coastguard the King came down on smugglers hard. Once there wasn’t a town or village on the south coast that didn’t have a bottle or two of contraband brandy under the stairs, but as the new century dawned the trade got harder and harder, and although the rewards increased, so did the chances of getting caught. Soon it had been pushed to the furthest and most remote corners of the country, and only the most daring remained in the game.
Bluebell Merrill was born in London, the second daughter of a society couple, but that meant nothing to her. As far as she was concerned her life began when her mother died, and her father removed himself to Cornwall to drown the memory of her at the bottom of a bottle.
But an accidental discovery leads Blue to become involved in the dangerous world of blood and money that still haunts her remote corner of the Cornish coast; and before she knows it she is caught between a dangerous man, the most notorious of the smugglers that still evade the King's law, and the magistrate determined to bring him to justice.
