“Who builds a mansion in the middle of the desert?” came the voice from down below.
Scarlett would have complained that it was a stupid question—and it was—but she had been thinking the same exact thing. Peering over the dune with a simple pair of binoculars, the large house with a backdrop of several high dunes behind it was the only thing in sight. There didn’t even seem to be a garrison patrolling the grounds.
True, they were supposed to meet with minimal resistance on this mission, but she should see something.
This was too easy. And in her experience, “too easy” meant deadly. She’d always hated Afghanistan. It was hot, it was barren, and nothing good ever came out of coming here. Plus she’d be washing sand out of her hair for a week.
