Foreword Millions of people buy a car. . . This is the story of one man - but how many people find they've hit the jackpot when they discover gold in a false tank under the bonnet? It's a story about the gang who came seeking the gold and who set fire to his flat when they couldn't find it. He realises this is no longer a game he can win and hands the gold over to the law, who tell him there is a reward - if he can stay alive long enough to collect it The gang kidnap him and suspend him above a swimming pool in the basement where he lives and where he's finally discovered by his roommate, who just happens to be an undercover policeman who's also seeking the gold. Offered a job in the South of England, he's shot at and narrowly escapes being killed. On the journey home his car is blasted out of existence. He manages to toss a couple of Molotov Cocktails (petrol bombs) at his attackers - a tip he'd picked up from Movietone News. He is again kidnapped and drugged and taken to a safe house for the boss man to collect, but is again rescued by the undercover policeman. The penny now drops and he accuses his friend of betraying him. He vehemently denies it. Now unable to trust anybody, he decides to do a runner and returns to Germany, of where he has fond memories from his army days. Alas, he has no job and nowhere to live. But with the brashness of youth these obstacles are soon overcome and he soon has a job, accommodation and the girl of his dreams. By a strange coincidence the man who first stole the gold is on the run from the police in the UK. In order to take the heat out of the situation he visits his sister who lives in West Germany. So, unbeknown to each other, the two are set to do battle in a spectacular manner. Our hero wins the battle abroad but is arrested on his return to the UK. In the trial that follows he is exonerated from all blame.
