Beschreibung

Whilst I enjoyed some aspects of Making Money, I don’t think it was as good as its predecessor in the Moist von Lipwig-centric books, Going Postal. I missed some of the faces we had met in Going Postal, like Stanley Howler who loved to collect pins and was, like anyone obsessed over their hobby? Consumed and wanting to talk solely about the love he had for them. I have to be glad that at least Gladys the Golem was in Making Money and did love how she found herself making friends with the bank cashiers and is learning to gossip and gets tips on her femininity from them and their collection of magazines.Terry Pratchett had such a wonderful way of making the reader look at the fictional world and then at the one we’re stuck in and have the reader think on our issues by shining a light on it via literature. But he was also ahead of his time with characters like Gladys, or the plethora of characters in Monster Regiment who were transgender, and I, of course, love it. Now, I get it, a gollum is a huge piece of magical clay but Gladys made a conscious decision to live as herself and I like how Moist acknowledges that he has begun to see that his gollum guard/friend/assistant has become more feminine as time has gone by and whilst confused he also accepts it. Thank you Sir Terry for things like this. The story is a good one, but it just didn't hold my attention in the way Going Postal had and that frustrated me because I hadn’t read this one before. I do love the villainy in the book and also the insight into the way the uber-rich act towards one another and others had me chuckling because it’s so accurate. My favourite character though does not talk but plays a huge part in the story and he’s a dog who has lived an unusual but pampered life and enjoys sticky toffee pudding for dessert! Plus the tiny dog finds himself a new toy that had me giggling uncontrollably. Because it’s so good.I have a feeling that Moist at the end of the book is aware he’s on borrowed time and I wonder if he will ever be truly free and behave better and not break the law? I doubt it.
