Princess Talea has lived in seclusion for ten years, hiding from her evil father and his cronies. She cannot allow him to find out that she is a mage; there are no female mages in Hearthome.

Prince Loran, the youngest of three royal brothers, has resigned himself to a life of study. His brothers are mages, he is not.
