After Isabelle Hunter buys a beautiful but antique desk from Jeff Gordon, she also acquires the diary of Athanasius, a 4th century Christian bishop, and another indecipherable document that the priest claimed to be the fifth Gospel of Christ.

Enthralled by the potentially historic find, Isabelle and Jeff travel to Texas to enlist the help of biblical experts Anita Flores and Charles Simmons. While in her home state, Isabelle faces her deepest secret but is unable to bear it. Isabelle runs away, vowing to forget about the ancient documents and the handsome man she’d thought she might be falling in love with.

Back in Philadelphia, Isabelle buries herself in her work and does a brilliant job, but when she and her friend Sabrina are attacked by Sabrina's enraged boyfriend, Isabelle is badly hurt and turns into herself, afraid to face the world as she suddenly sees it.

Can Isabelle turn her life around? Or will she spiral back down into the despairing darkness of her past? Whatever happens, she will have to learn the truth about herself and the nature of humility before she can make her way back to life.
