In Søren Kierkegaard's first large published work, Either/Or, which he began writing in Berlin in 1841, the Danish theologian and philosopher differentiates between two personalities and their differing devotion to life: the "aesthete" and the "ethicist". The catalogue presents life choices, in the sense described by Kierkegaard, by way of 18 international contemporary artists. In the first part, work representing the aesthetic/hedonistic aspects of life are to be found - ethically oriented viewpoints on life in contemporary art are reflected in the second.
