Like other reviewers have commented, this is a small story fragment in a much larger world. This novella does a lot in its short page count. It really invokes the chaos of the night in the City of Ilnaen with frequent moments of action to keep you hooked while introducing you to its magic system. Giving you four different perspectives from different factions helps provide a flavour of what could be expected in the larger novels. My main issue is that the book almost tries to do too much with what little time it has, but ultimately, I'm intrigued to read on!
