The Quiet Tenant

I was super excited to read this based on the synopsis. A psychological thriller about a serial killer told from the POV of the women around him? Check! Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the end. Despite the topic, I don’t think I’d consider this a thriller at all. More pyschological drama. The pace was really slow and there wasn’t really much of a plot outside of the trauma induced thoughts of the victim, which definitely seemed to be the focus over any real plot involving the serial killer. The most interesting thing about this book (and why it’s even getting 3 stars) WAS the perspective it was told from, especially the main POV of the victim. A first person POV referring to herself in third person was hard to grasp but, to me, emphasized the way she’d dissociated from herself. With that said, her chapters were slow and repetitive and the other 2 POVs contributed very little to the actual story. While the other woman’s did give slight insight to who the man appeared to be on the outside, she was a little unreliable and made some pretty weird choices. I’m not sure why the daughter’s POV was included and how it was relevant at all. I kept reading because I was interested enough to want to know how it played out for the girl… but don’t feel like we really KNOW anything in the end. What his motive was, why he kept her, etc. Which may be realistic (given it’s all an outside perspective- we aren’t ever in HIS head) but not an entertaining or satisfying read.

I think my review is a copy of every review I've seen of this book.I loved everything about it. It was so masterfully written, I actually began to care about the love story.What I wish I could change somehow is the ending... It was very anticlimactic and that was a bit disappointing since I was as the edge of my seat for 95% of the book. And while I understand that there's no point in following his outcome, since we haven't actually been in his POV at any point during the book, I still wish it would have done at least a bit more.
