Zero

Zero has lived within the confines of the school grounds his entire life. Located in a crocodile-infested swamp, and surrounded by stone walls that tower above the trees, he feels safe there. The outside world has become overrun with jungle cats, crocodiles and all manner of predators, and that danger is nothing compared to the zombie-like humans who survived the virus outbreak.

He wishes he could stay at school, but he and his only friend, Lefty, are at the cusp of becoming men, which means it’s time to take their placement tests and be assigned their role in society. Zero isn’t concerned about how well he might do, but there’s no way Lefty can pass that test. When they discover the terrible fate awaiting those who fail, they realize it’s time to make some drastic decisions. How far will Zero be willing to go to help Lefty succeed? Or will they forgo the test altogether and take their chances in the outside world?
