Great YA book! Love the movie, too!

April 1st 2026

I really enjoyed The Hunger Games. I will say upfront: I had already seen the movies before reading the book, and the story is almost a 1:1 match with the film adaptation. That might sound like a downside, but honestly—it’s a huge compliment. It shows how well the movies captured the essence of the book. What made the book truly worth it for me was the extra depth and background you simply don’t get on screen. Katniss’ thoughts, motivations, and emotional struggles are much more layered in the novel, which made me feel even more connected to her character and the world she lives in.The book is incredibly easy and fast to read. I finished it in about half a day, which really says it all—you just keep turning the pages. The pacing is strong, the chapters are short, and the tension keeps pulling you forward. This is also one of the first dystopian novels I ever picked up, and it completely worked for me. The world is dark and unfair, but there’s also hope, love, and resistance woven through the story, which makes it very compelling.Overall, The Hunger Games is an accessible, gripping dystopian novel that fully deserves its popularity. Even if you’ve already seen the movies, the book is absolutely worth reading for the added depth and emotional insight.
