Descripción

In a captivating alternate reality where America boasts its own royal family, the narrative unfolds around the lives of the fictional House of Washington, exploring the intricacies of power, privilege, and personal desires. Generations after the Revolutionary War, the descendants of George Washington navigate the pressures of monarchy in the modern age. With a vibrant backdrop of opulence and duty, the story delves into the complexities faced by young royals who are torn between tradition and their own aspirations.

At the heart of the tale are three distinct sisters, each grappling with their roles within the royal family. From the responsibilities of leadership to the weight of public expectation, the reader is drawn into their world of lavish balls, political intrigue, and romantic entanglements. As secrets unfold and alliances shift, the sisters' bonds are tested, and they must decide what they truly value—love, loyalty, or their place in the royal hierarchy.

Set against a backdrop of glittering social events and dramatic stakes, this exploration of lineage, identity, and ambition offers a fresh take on the concept of royalty. The characters are beautifully drawn, their struggles resonate deeply, and the stakes feel as real as ever, inviting readers to ponder the balance between duty and desire in a society that mirrors our own.

This book is such a mess wtf? The most unlikable characters whining across 400 pages. But...it is interesting, in a watching a trainwreck happen, kind of way.

This is the story of the American Royal family - the Washingtons and those around them.I loved the idea of an alternative America and what it could be like and Katharine McGee has created a world that is rich in description and luxury for the first family of the United States. We meet thr younger members of the Washington family, Beatrix who is heir to the throne and will be America's first Queen and her twin siblings, Samantha the rebellious princess and Jefferson the recently single and all American prince. Along with the trio of royalty there's Nina who has grown up with the twins, daughter of one of the King's staff and Daphne, Jeff's ex and to coin a phrase the peoples' princess as Daphne is everything every girl hopes to be - until Jeff left her that is!Events unfold and like a house of cards, there is a fallout and we see it from the eyes of our main characters. McGee's writing brings each and every character come to life and each one of the three Washington siblings have their own unique personality and I like seeing how the same incident effects different people. Nina is lovely, a girl who sees the world far differently to the others as luck has led to her proximity to the Washingtons rather than her place in the American aristocracy. There are times when I want to give her a big old hug and reassure her that things will be okay because Damn! The fates are a bit cruel to her, just as much as they are good.I love this book, devoured it and wanted more - thankfully I had Monarchy to go next as I was left shocked, eager for revenge and cursing people for their evil manipulations. There was even moments where I definitely got something in my eye, because there couldn't have been tears, could there?
