Guys. I’m so torn on this one. I wanted to LOVE it so much. Everyone seems to love it so much! And I did really enjoy it for the most part… but I have some questions and… feelings. lol This was not the typical vampire/werewolf book that I expected but I thought it was an interesting take on the genre and lore. Definitely more romance focused than any extensive world building, but one major thing that I feel should have been more adequately explained, as it’s the main basis of the book, is the entire premise of the marriage. It didn’t really make sense to me. If everyone KNEW it wasn’t a real marriage and it worked the exact same way as the Collateral program with the humans… why WASN’T it just the Collateral program? Especially as traditional marriage was a human tradition and not something either the vampires or werewolves normally did. The marriage didn’t really seem to do anything for the plot one way or another either so I guess I’m just confused about how/why it needed to happen. Otherwise, I liked the mystery and political aspect and didn’t see the who, what, and why coming. I really enjoyed the little headers for each chapter giving insight into the Lowe’s thoughts and I really liked Misery and her blunt wittiness. She made me chuckle out loud several times. As for the romance, I loved them together. I loved the banter and chemistry but I could have done WITHOUT the spice in this book - iykyk. I have never CRINGED so hard! It took away from it for me and probably would have been 4 stars otherwise.
