📚 : Tuesdays With Morrie
★★★★★
what would you do if after years of living the most active life, you found out that you’re quickly fading away because of a disease? i expected this book to make me think this much about my own life. i went into it knowing that it was about an old professor dyīng and reconnecting with one of his former students, but somehow, knowing the premise beforehand did not prepare me for how intimate the book would feel. this may be a book about death, but i feel more like this is a story about everything we tend to forget about living. love people. spend time with them. forgive. don’t let money or success become the only things you measure your life by. accept that deāth is inevitable. none of these ideas are particularly new, but hearing/reading them coming from someone who is slowly losing everything feels too painful and beautiful at the same time. for someone dyīng to tell you what it means to truly live. what stayed with me most was the idea that we are so busy trying to build a life that we sometimes forget to actually live one.
that said, i did find some of the lessons repetitive. but i took it as the exact point of the book. we already know many of these things, we just don’t always practice them. sometimes we need to hear the same lesson over and over before we finally understand it. morrie is really a great professor, the lessons were never complicated. i always see myself reflecting and understanding everything like i was mitch and they were my tuesdays. the book left me with the realization that we are all constantly approaching our own last tuesdays. end is inevitable. but to think about the end without living the in between will only make the ending bland. living should be fun. even if you feel like you’re near the end, still make the days count. those are still your days.
