Darius my pookie 😔
This book had so much filler that it felt like nothing really happened until the very end. I don’t care about Lionel’s POV at all, and honestly, I could have done without Xavier and Geraldine’s POVs too. I’ve said for multiple books now that I’m completely over the shadows storyline, and somehow I’m even more sick of it now. It’s repetitive, annoying, and at this point, it doesn’t feel like it’s adding anything meaningful to the story. The fact that Lavinia basically can’t die is ridiculous. I’m so tired of everyone having to make these horrible deals with horrible people. Lance making a deal with Lavinia? What the hell was that? Come on. And Darcy? Are you kidding me? That might be my least favorite storyline in the entire series. The romance is also getting incredibly repetitive. I’m completely fine with a spicy scene here and there, but there were so many that eventually I started skipping them because it was just the same thing over and over again. And the last thing we needed was a Lionel sex scene. Gross.Xavier’s sex scene also felt so weird and completely inauthentic to his character. He has been portrayed as meek, gentle, and kind, and suddenly he’s sleeping with Tyler and Sophia and is a Dom? I just don’t buy it. It felt like it was thrown in for shock value rather than because it actually made sense for his character. And then there’s the ending. What even was that? It was stupid and confusing. So Geraldine is dead? Xavier might die? Darcy is now some dark, shadowy killing creature? Darius is dead? Lance has a deal with Lavinia? Hamish and Catalina are dead? Lionel is, of course, perfectly fine as always? And Gabriel is either captured or dead? Soooo stupid. There were so many things happening at once that instead of making me excited for the next book, I was just annoyed.I did like getting more of Leon in this book, though. He was one of my favorites from Ruthless Boys, so I was happy to see him again.Seth and Caleb are also starting to annoy me. Is it really impossible for two people in these books to just talk to each other instead of getting stuck inside their own heads, keeping secrets, and creating unnecessary drama? This book was more than long enough for them to have figured out their entire relationship by now.Honestly, the biggest problem for me is how repetitive the storylines are becoming. Tory had to be trapped with Lionel and the shadows and be brought back, so now Darcy has to have her turn with the shadows? Darius gave himself up to save Tory, so now Orion has to give himself up to Lavinia to save Darcy? It’s basically the same storyline happening again with different characters. At this point, it feels like the series keeps recycling the same conflicts instead of moving the story forward. Every time I think we might finally be done with the shadows, Lavinia, the deals, the secrets, and the endless suffering, we somehow end up right back there.I really hated this one. There were a few things I enjoyed, especially seeing Leon again, but overall this book was way too long, repetitive, confusing, and frustrating. I’m hoping the next book finally starts moving the story in a new direction because I genuinely don’t know how much more of the same storyline I can take.
